Illinois Early Childhood Fellowship moved to the Erikson Institute
taking up the challenge of leadership for Illinois’ youngest children
The Illinois Early Childhood Fellowship (IECF) was an initiative developed and funded by a consortium of six Chicago area funders to build leadership capacity in the early childhood field. In July 2015, the IECF program transitioned from ECF, its fiscal sponsor, to a permanent new home at the Erikson Institute. Full-time professionals in the child development field who hold leadership positions within nonprofit organizations or government in Illinois can be nominated by their organizations to participate in the Barbara Bowman Leadership Fellows Program of the Early Childhood Leadership Academy at Erikson Institute.
six funders envisioned a program to strengthen the leadership pipeline
The Early Childhood Fellowship was conceived in 2007, when funders participating in the Early Childhood Funders Group began to envision a new program for strengthening the leadership pipeline for early childhood care and education in Illinois. They discussed the creation of a Fellows program that would provide intensive learning opportunities for up and coming leaders with an interest in the field. The original funders: The Boeing Company, Grand Victoria Foundation, Irving Harris Foundation, J.B. & M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation, Joyce Foundation, and McCormick Foundation.
