Evanston Community Foundation Honored with the 2023 ABFE Trailblazer Award for Advancing Reparations Efforts in the Community

April 14, 2023 | For Immediate Release

Evanston, IL – This Friday, the president and CEO of The Evanston Community Foundation (the Community Foundation) has been selected to receive the 2023 ABFE Trailblazer Award. The Association of Black Foundation Executives has recognized Sol Anderson for helping lead the foundation’s reparations work. CEO Sol Anderson accepted the award during ABFE’s 23rd Annual Trailblazer award reception in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Community Foundation has been supporting the work of reparations by working with the Reparations Stakeholders Authority of Evanston (RSAE) and holding the funds for their campaign as they work to bring reparations to Evanston.

“We are absolutely thrilled and deeply honored to be receiving the 2023 ABFE Trailblazer Award for our work in the field of reparations. The repair of the harm done to Black Americans is a deeply important issue, and we are proud to have contributed to the ongoing dialogue and action in this critical area. The work of reparations cannot be done without the contribution and effort of an entire community, so we are extremely grateful for the partnership and dedication of the Reparations Stakeholders Authority of Evanston and of Evanston’s faith leaders for their trust in ECF to support the work. Thank you to every donor, collaborator, and disrupter who have helped make this work possible; and thank you to ABFE for honoring myself- and the Evanston community- with the esteemed 2023 ABFE Trailblazer Award!” said Sol Anderson, President and CEO, Evanston Community Foundation.
